Breastfeeding in the workplace

It is considered best practice for employers to have a conversation with those employees that are still breastfeeding to discuss what reasonable facilities could be put in place to facilitate their needs when they choose to return to work.

Examples include finding private areas to express and having a place for milk to be stored.

Employers should be mindful that this can be a sensitive and sometimes difficult subject to cover with their employees but it is important that the employer makes the transition back to work after maternity leave as smooth as possible, trying to keep in mind the wellbeing of the child and mother in question.
